Cougar coach steps down

Pulaski Co. High School boys basketball coach Andrew Hart has stepped down as their head coach. He also will be leaving his teaching position at Pulaski Co. at the end of the school year.

Coach Hart said,” This was a very difficult decision. My wife has a job in Roanoke and we decided to moved there to be closer to her work. I’m going to try to get a teaching job at a school close to the Roanoke area and perhaps try to coach, too. I like to thank everyone for their support for the last five years at Pulaski Co. I hate leaving, it’s a special place for me. That’s what makes this a tough decision.” Coach Hart then added,” I had a great experience coming back to Pulaski Co and this place will always be HOME. I’m grateful for all of those who have supported Cougar basketball these last five season’s. I’m grateful for the administration who believed in my vision for the program.”

Coach Hart played for the Cougars under Mark Hanks and then attended Emory& Henry and played basketball there. After graduating he took a teaching job and coached the junior varsity at Lord Botetourt High School. He then took over the Pulaski Co. Cougar varsity squad five years ago. He finished with a 60-61 overall record at Pulaski Co.

Also, Cougar assistant coach and head junior varsity coach Brandon Smith has resigned, as well. He coached the JV the last two years with a 27-17 record. He had been with Coach Hart all five years at Pulaski Co.

On a personal note: Coach Hart it’s been a pleasure covering you and your team the last five years. I appreciate you letting me keep your scorebook and being your official scorekeeper at home games. You will be missed…Thank You doesn’t seem to say enough, my friend!!
