VHSL proposal for the 2023-2027 seasons
VHSL has proposed some new alignment and some district changes for schools. This is just a proposal for now. August 8, 2022, is the deadline for a request to appeal. August 15, 2022, deadline to submit the appeal on any change. On August 23, 2022, the appeals committee meets to hear any appeals and recommend final alignment.
The following schools may be facing changes. First Pulaski Co. would be dropped to Class 3 from Class 4. The Cougars would be placed in Class 3, Region D, and stay in the River Ridge District. George Wythe and Grayson Co. would be placed into Class 2 from Class 1. Both would stay in the Mountain Empire District and be Class 2 Region C. Patrick Co. would be placed in The Three Rivers District replacing the new combined Alleghany/Covington High Schools. Those two schools will be the Alleghany Highlands and a Class 3 school. They will play in the Shenandoah District.
Other news of the realignment would see Honaker and Lebanon playing in the Hogoheegee District.
Pulaski Co. would be in the region with Abingdon, Bassett, Carroll Co., Cave Spring, Christiansburg, Hidden Valley, Lord Botetourt, Magna Vista, Northside, Staunton River, Tunstall, and William Byrd.
Radford would stay in Class 2 Region C, Fort Chiswell would stay in Class 1 Region C. Auburn, Narrows, Giles, Eastern Montgomery, and Galax would also remain in Class 1 Region C. Floyd Co. would stay in Class 2 Region C.
Better Late than Never
This is late but just wanted to say, THANK YOU, to all the head coaches and athletic directors, as well as the players for an enjoyable 2021-22 sports season. I truly enjoyed all the football, basketball, and baseball of the high schools that I visited this past school season.
A BIG Thank You again to all the people that I met. With that being said bring on the 2022-23 High School season. Football Practice officially starts Monday, August 1. Sincerely, RSN- Rodney Sports Now.
