NRV Tigers schedule for Calfee Park- July 30-Aug. 2

The NRV Tigers are playing at Calfee Park in Pulaski, July 30- August 2. The Tigers 18 U schedule is as follows:

Thurs. vs NRV 17U – 1:30 pm

Thurs. vs ATown Falcons – 6 pm

Fri. July 31- vs Team Virginia – 6 pm

The Tigers will have their 17U team as well as three (3) 16U teams playing as Calfee Park, too!

NRV Tigers 18U to play locally

The New River Tigers 18U showcase baseball team will be playing at the Salem Red Sox Stadium ( Haley Toyota Field) and 17U also at Kiwanis Field in Salem this weekend. The tournament at Salem starts Friday, July 24, and runs through Sunday, July 26. The Tigers went 3-1 last weekend at the University of Tennessee tournament, as they lost in the semifinals 4-1.

Note— The NRV Tigers will also have their 17 U team and three (3), 16U teams, playing this weekend. The 17U team will be playing in Salem, Kiwanis Field. The three 16 U squads will be playing at Lynchburg at Liberty University. Good Luck Tigers.

NRV Tigers to play at Calfee Park

The New River Valley Tigers 18U team -Showcase Baseball -will be playing this weekend, July 9-12 at Calfee Park in Pulaski, home of the Pulaski Yankees. Thursday, July 9 they play BC Athletics at 8:15 pm. They will then take on Arsenal Nation 2021 HTG team Saturday, July 11 at 3:45 pm. Then at 8:15 pm, they play Virginia Sting. Admission is $10 per day or $20 pass for the four days.15 and under are free. Sunday, July 12 will be the top two (2) in pool play will play for championship in 18 U, 17 U, and 16 U.

The 18U NRV Tigers have 10 college commits playing for them.

The NRV 17U will also be playing at Calfee Park. The 17 U team will take on Virginia Sting Thursday, July 9 at 6:00 pm. They then will take on Arsenal Nation at 3:45 pm on Friday, July 10, and then play BC Athletics Saturday, July 11 at 1:30 pm.

Three NRV 16U teams will also be playing at Calfee Park. The 16U teams are NRV Bryant, NRV Stewart, and NRV Williams. In all total of 23 high schools are represented by the NRV teams.

Tigers end summer travel with Championship

Lynchburg… The NRV Tigers 18U travel baseball team finished their summer circuit winning a championship at Liberty University. The championship game saw the Tigers defeat NRV Post 59 6-5 as Caleb Pritchard single in two runs in the seventh to capture the title. Carter Plunkett got the mound win as he tossed four innings striking out two and gave up just two earned runs. Pritchard finished the game going four-for-four scored one run and knocked in two.

The Tigers got the weekend started by beating Roanoke Rails 7-0 behind the pitching of Taylor Newcome. He struck out 10 going five innings. Plunkett had three RBI. They would beat Short Pump Bandits 8-3 Saturday afternoon, as Andrew Shaffner pitched five innings. He struck out four, walked two. He gave up one run on four hits. Pritchard, Shawn Campbell, Leighton Dunford, and Punky Foster led the hit attack.

Then on Sunday, the Tigers beat the Rebels 7-6 as Caleb Pritchard hit a two-run walk-off triple to back the pitching of Sean Gibbons. They would then beat the West Virginia Red Devils 6-5 when Nathan Funk hit a two-run double in the sixth to propel the Tigers into the championship game against NRV Post 59.

The weekend saw Pritchard knock in nine runs to lead the Tigers. He was followed by Campbell and Plunkett both had seven RBI each. Pritchard, Andrew Neighbors, Nathan Funk, and Campbell had seven hits each. Funk led the Tigers with six runs scored. Campbell scored four times as Pritchard, Cam Upton and Shaffner three runs each.

Tiger head coach Todd Davis remarked, ” What a weekend. We win three games by one run and those came in our last at-bat. Got great pitching and timely hitting. What a team effort all weekend.”

The Tigers with their five wins finished the summer with a record of 16-4-1. They won their last eight games in a row and 11 of their last 12.

Reed commits

Former Auburn High School baseball player Keith Reed has decided to further his education and baseball career at Concord University. Reed helped Auburn to a state championship this past spring and is playing for the NRV Tigers 18U showcase team this summer. Congrats to Keith and his family.

NRV Tigers 18U goes undefeated in Tenn.

The New River Valley Tigers 18U showcase baseball team won all three of their games this past weekend. Playing in Tennessee they won 1-0, 7-3, and 8-3.

Their first game saw pitcher Sean Gibbons throw a two-hit complete-game shutout. The Tigers scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh as Andrew Neighbors tripled and scored on a Caleb Pritchard walk-off single to beat the East Tn. Fury.

The Tigers would then defeat Hard Knox Orioles 7-3 Saturday afternoon, as pitcher Shawn Campbell went seven innings. He allowed all three runs in the first inning before he settled down on the mound. He struck out eight and allowed just five hits for the win. Pulaski Co. Cougars’ Punky Foster had a double to knock in two runs.

On Sunday the Tigers took on Travel East Tn. Elite and won 8-3 behind the pitching of Taylor Newcome. Newcome went four innings struck out three and allowed five hits and three runs. Foster would pitch an inning and strike out one. Carter Plunkett would also pitch one inning. Newcome would help himself as he scored two runs. Punky Foster would score two runs, as well.

Tigers head man Todd Davis said, ” We got great pitching this weekend. Gibbons ( Sean), Campbell ( Shawn), and Taylor Newcome. I thought Punky Foster, Andrew Neighbors, Carter Plunkett, Caleb Pritchard, Leighton Dunford, as well as Campbell and Newcome all hit the ball.” He then added, ” Logan Burchette, Cam Upton also came through in big situations. The whole team played extremely well.”

The Tigers were led in hits by Carter Plunkett and Shawn Campbell with three each. Logan Burchette, Leighton Dunford, Punky Foster, Caleb Pritchard, and Andrew Neighbors all had two hits apiece. Neighbors scored four runs as Taylor Newcome had three. Shawn Campbell and Punky Foster scored twice. Campbell, Plunkett, Pritchard all knocked in three runs apiece. Foster and Cam Upton had two RBI.

The Tigers with their three wins are now 11-4-1 on the summer and will travel to Lynchburg ,August 2-4. Games will be played at Liberty University.

NRV Tigers 18U takes three of four

Blacksburg/ Vinton… NRV Tigers won three of four games this weekend. They won their Friday game 8-4 over Richmond Braves. Saturday morning they would lose to Va. Seminoles 3-1 but bounced back Saturday afternoon defeating the Bobcats of NOVA, 8-2.

Sunday they would shutout the RBA Seminoles 7-0. Taylor Newcome and Shawn Campbell combined to throw a two-hitter as Newcome got the victory. The two pitchers combined to strike out seven in six innings.

The Tigers won Friday as Pulaski Co. Cougar Punky Foster drove in two huge runs, scored a run and he also got the mound win. He pitched two innings giving up no earned runs, allowed only one hit and struck out two. Saturday after their 3-1 loss their bats came alive as Carter Plunkett hit two homers, knocking in three and scored three times behind the pitching of Fort Chiswell Pioneer Leighton Dunford. Dunford tossed four frames striking out four.

The weekend saw a lot of Tigers performed very well. Plunkett hit two homers as he finished the weekend seven for 11 at the plate. He drove in six and scored six runs. Newcome scored three runs and had three RBI. Caleb Pritchard and Cougars Punky Foster also had three RBI. Dunford, Foster and Brody Luckey picked up wins on the mound. Carroll Co. Cavaliers Blake Stanley had five hits in eight at-bats. Foster went four for nine, Pritchard four for 10, Auburn’s Keith Reed was three for six as Newcome also had three hits in seven at-bats for the weekend.

Tigers head coach Todd Davis remarked, ” I thought we got some very good pitching from Newcome, Dunford, Foster, Campbell, and Luckey. Our bats for the most part produced. Plunkett, Pritchard, Newcome, Stanley, Reed and Foster came through at different times for us.”

NRV Tigers improved to 8-4-1 on their summer tour overall and will now travel to Sevierville, Tennessee for July 19-21.
