Galax… Playing for the second consecutive night, the Pulaski Co. Cougars took command early and rolled the Galax Maroon Tide 49-25. The Cougars placed two players into double figures, with CC Grubb leading the way with 15 points and senior point guard Isaac Poe finished with 11.

Galax playing their first game of the season due to winning the state football title had trouble getting into the flow of things and mishandling the ball. They committed 15 turnovers in the first half. None of the Maroon Tide players produced double digits on the night. Isaiah Brown and Jacob Brown both produced eight points apiece in the loss.

Pulaski Co. (6-2) led 11-6 after one quarter and expanded that to 26-12 at intermission. The second half saw them outscore the Tide 23-13 as Coach Hart played all 10 players that dressed for the Cougars. “I thought our defense was extremely good tonight. It bothered them and our dribble penetration hurt them,” said Andrew Hart head coach of the Cougars. “I thought Logan Robertson played well and gave us a lift off the bench. Braeden Blevins came in and gave us some good minutes tonight. I was also glad all of our players that were dressed got into the game,” coach Hart remarked.

With the win the Cougars go into the holiday break at 6-2 and Coach Hart said, “I’m happy that we have won six games at this point. I think it should be seven wins. This team has looked for each other very well so far this season, and we can and will improve.”

Pulaski Co. junior varsity broke their losing streak as they defeated Galax 41-29. Kellen Dalton coming off of an 18 point performance against Franklin Co. in a losing cause the night before, led the young Cougars again as he tossed in 11. Kohl Hedge, playing perhaps his best game, had eight and Alex Akers chipped in with six, as the Cougars are now 2-6.

Gage Cook led Galax with 13 points and Matt Evans with four.

The Cougars will not be back in action until Tuesday January 5, as they will host the Blacksburg Bruins in the Cougar Den.
