Galax , injuries handcuff Fort Chiswell

Galax got four touchdowns from Dougie Peoples and two from Blake Brown enroute to a 41-0 thumping of the Fort Chiswell Pioneers. Brown has 227 yards rushing and Peoples 184.

Fort Chiswell ( 9-4) played without three senior starters ,who had injuries. Colby rider has a broken collarbone, Patrick Crawford tore ligaments in the right knee and Anthony Stoots pulled ligaments in his ankle. To top that off starting quarterback Warren Moore was sick and only played the first half. Galax had 469 total yards to the Pioneers 231. Galax had 21 first downs to nine for Fort Chiswell.

Tyler Jakubiak has 20 carries for 116 yards and Fort Chiswell also had three touchdowns called back. Galax (11-2) scored three times in the first quarter , Brown from one yard out and Peoples had runs of 12 and 19 yards for a 21-0 lead. They stretched that to 28-0 at intermission with Brown scoring from one yard. They would add two third quarters scores both by Peoples from 12 and 54 yards.

Fort Chiswell head coach Todd Tiller said,” Brown and Peoples are a heck of a combo for them. Galax offensive line does a great job. Coach Dixon is a very good coach. They were more physical than us at the line of scrimmage tonight.” Coach then added,” I’m so proud of these kids. They have worked their tails off since last November. Coming of a winless season ,no one thought that we would be here in the state quarterfinals. It really hurt us losing Rider , Crawford and Stoots. Rider can disrupt a game on defense or offense . His leadership on the field is hard to replace. I think he’s one of the best if not the best player in southwest Virginia.”

There was very few dry eyes in the Fort Chiswell locker room after the game. This meant a lot to the players and coaches and it hurt. It was a heck of a ride from a team that was winless last year to nine wins and a state quarterfinal appearance this season. Yes the hurt was very obvious .
