Max Meadows—Playing on a very pleasant evening the Fighting Blues of Parry McCluer hammered the Fort Chiswell Pioneers 50-14.

Parry McCluer got on the board with 3:38 remaining in the opening quarter as quarterback Zach Claytor sneaked in from one yard out but the point after was wide right for a 6-0 score. They would then get the ball and drive 56 yards on six plays with Marcellus Dawson running in from 12 yards out but the two-point conversion run failed. Their next possession they drove 49 yards on four plays with K J Cook bulling his way in from one yard but the run again failed. Their next possession they got a two-yard run from Dawson and Cook ran his way in for a two-point conversion as they took a 26-0 lead into intermission.

The Pioneers took the second half kickoff but three plays and out the Fighting Blues would get a 47 yard run up the middle from Jeremy Nelson and he then ran in for the two-point try as it was 34-0 with nine minutes left in the third quarter. Once again the Blues “D” would hold the Pioneers to three and out as they setup on their own 42. After Nelson gained for yards off tackle, Cook took the hand off broke three or four tackles as he rambled in on a 56 yard touchdown and Nelson run made it 42-0 in middle of the third, as the route was on.

Fort Chiswell would finally get on the scoreboard as Warren Moore dropped back and passed to Hunter Parrott at the McCluer 45 yard line and he broke a couple tackles on his way for a 53 yard score with 5:17 left in the third quarter and Tyler Dunford point after made it 42-7.

Parry McCluer (4-1) would get their last score with 11:50 left in the game as on their first play of the quarter Nelson rammed his way in from three yards out and his run made it 50-7.

The Pioneers would then drive the ball 50 yards down to the Fighting Blues 10 yard line. Moore would then lob a pass into the corner of the end zone and Colby Rider caught the pass for six and Dunford’s point after make the final 50-14.

“We just got whipped,” said Fort Chiswell head coach Todd Tiller. “ They did everything we thought they would but we couldn’t stop them. Our defense was on the field so much in the first half we got wore down.” Coach then added,” We will play the three top teams in the West 1A Division, Galax, Parry McCluer and George Wythe. That’s a tough threesome as was the Parry McCluer three backs. They are one tough football team. “

Fort Chiswell (2-2) quarterback Warren Moore passed for 211 yards as he completed 16 of 29 passes and threw two touchdowns. Sean Morgan led them with just 21 yards rushing on five carries.

The Pioneers will have to regroup as they hit the road next Friday as they go the Buchanan to take on the James River Knights. Kick off is scheduled for 7 pm.
