Patriots big inning beats Cougars

The Patrick Henry Patriots scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, sending 13 batters to the plate as they beat the visiting Cougars 11-6. The Patriots got two RBi’s each from Carter Plunkett, Robert Sykes, Crawford Higgins, and E. Woodrum. Plunkett went four innings striking out eight and walked just one batter. Both runs against him were unearned and gave up just two hits.

Pulaski Co. ( 1-3) got two hits from Austin Gallimore and Punky Foster. Gallimore knocked in four runs. Foster took the loss on the mound as he couldn’t get past the second inning. He gave up seven runs, walked four and allowed five hits.

” We dug a huge hole early and it cost us,” said Cougar head coach Greg Allen. ” My hats off to Patrick Henry. They are tough. We absolutely have to stop digging ourselves in a hole early. Those mistakes are hard to overcome. We showed grit by battling back.”

The Cougars play home Thursday against Lord Botetourt and then host Hidden Valley Friday. Both games begin at 5:00 pm.
