Pioneers to take on the Bears

Max Meadows– Fort Chiswell will host the Bland Co. Bears this Friday night. Fort Chiswell enters the game with a 6-3 record , while the Bears are 3-6. Fort Chiswell will be in the Group 2C playoffs next week but need to win this Friday to get the best seeding. The Pioneers are scoring just over 27 a game and allowing 20 per game.

Bland Co. is battling for a spot in the Group 1C playoffs. They are averaging 20 points per game and surrendering 41 per game. They are coached by Harris Hart who is in his 14th season. He has an overall record of 51-82.

Pioneer head coach Todd Tiller remarked,” Bland is well coached. Coach Hart does a fine job there. On offense they will run the wing-T. Their quarterback Jake Watters is a special player. He has a strong arm and also runs well with the ball.” Coach then said,” On defense they will show 44 scheme. Their secondary is in zone or cover three. Once again the Watters kid at safety covers lot of ground for them. They have some big kids and we got to be ready to play.”

Bland has wins over Craig Co., Northwood and Rural Retreat. Their losses are to Eastern Montgomery, Narrows, Grayson Co., George Wythe , Galax and to Auburn in overtime. Last week they got thumped by Galax 75-7.

It will be Senior Night for the Pioneers as they say good-bye to Anthony Morris, Tanner Bailey, Tyler Dunford, Sean Morgan and Logan Smith. Kick-off Friday night is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
