Second half brings win for the Bobcats

Bristol…The long bus ride seemed to slow the Radford Bobcats down the first half but they came out in the second half smokin’ as they defeated the Tigers of Honaker 66-59.

The win advances the Bobcats to the championship of the 1A West Region. Two sophomores led them as point guard Quinton Morton-Richardson had a game high 26 points. With Robertson doing damage on the outside Miles Jones did the damage inside as he contributed 19 points.

Honaker got 15 points from Christiansburg transfer Alec Anderson as well as 15 from Blake Stinson. The Tigers big man Hartley Hilton chipped in with 14 and Brandon Sample knocked in 12 points. Honaker (23-4) took a 30-26 advantage into the halftime locker room but feel behind 49-47 going to the final period. Honaker will now play for third place against the loser of the Eastside – Geo. Wythe game.

Radford head coach Rick Cormany said, “Give Honaker credit. They outplayed us for most of the game.“ He then added, “We didn’t play good defense the whole first half. It was an ugly win for sure. Give them (Honaker) a lot of credit for that.”

Radford advances to play the winner of the George Wythe – Eastside game for the title of the region.
