Dublin…Pulaski County Cougars committed six errors that led to four unearned runs and the loss to the Patrick Henry Patriots 7 – 4.

The Patriots got a complete game from pitcher Ryan McEachern as he struck out six batters and scattered eleven hits. Five different Patriots had two hits each. Spencer Wright, Carter Mason, Jacob Brown and John Gardner were four of the players with two hits each and also had an RBI each. Christian Polumbo was the fifth player with two hits. Pulaski County (3-5-1) was lead by Camden Underwood as he went three for three and a RBI. Kam Hall, Grant and Jon Osteen all finished with two hits apiece. Andrew Lowe was one for three with two RBIs. Jon Osteen scored two runs. Thomas Anderson was the starting pitcher and ended up the tough-luck loser. He went three innings, striking out three and gave up just one hit. He walked two and hit one batter as the Cougar errors did him in.

Cougar head coach Jared King said, “We made to many mistakes today. I thought Anderson pitched real well. He gave us a quality start. We can’t make those kind of mistakes against a good team like Patrick Henry.” Coach then added, “A couple guys had real good games today, and I am encouraged by the way we kept competing in the seventh inning. Both teams had eleven hits today. We are close to putting all this together. Seems as if we get good pitching, we don’t hit. Then when we hit we don’t get good pitching.”

The Cougars will be home for three games next week, Monday, Tuesday and Friday. On Monday they will host the visiting Maroon Tide of Galax. First pitch slated for 5 pm.

Fort Chiswell baseball team defeats Galax

Galax… Playing on a sunny late afternoon, the Fort Chiswell Pioneers baseball team beat the Galax Maroon Tide 9-5 in a game played at Felts Park.

The Pioneers (6-0) got a strong pitching performance from senior and Concord-bound Bryson Booher. Booher pitched a complete game as he struck out 15 Galax batters.

Galax’s ace pitcher Stew Meridian was the starter and loser for the Tide, as he lasted only four innings. Joseph Berry and Logan Walker led the Maroon Tide with two RBIs each and both were 1 for 3 batting.

Chance Davis led Fort Chiswell offensively, scoring three runs and having a couple hits. First baseman Tanner Cook knocked in four huge runs and had a couple hits.

Pioneer head coach Derrick Jackson said, ”We played well but we left way too many people on base. We left, what, 12 runners stranded? That’s not good.”

The Pioneers did in fact leave the bases loaded three times and had 12 left on base. Booher saw his record improve to 4-0 for the baseball season.

Coach Jackson remarked, ”This was a big win for us. We know how tough it is to beat Galax here at Felts Park.” This was Fort Chiswell ’s first game of the season in the Mountain Empire District schedule of their season.

Fort Chiswell will be back in action Friday as they host the Narrows Green Wave. The first pitch is slated for 5 pm.

Reese Williamson then singled to score Shepherd. Hamblin then crossed the plate on a ground out by Roman Bonet and Williamson scored on a sacrifice by Taylor Newcome.
