District Titles , playoff seedings on the line

It’s the last Friday night of regular season high school football. Not only are playoff seedings or even a playoff bid on the line for some teams tonight, but some district titles are also up for grabs. The River Ridge is Blacksburgs’ even if they lose to Christiansburg. They have already defeated the second place Salem Spartans. That’s assuming the Spartans get by The Pulaski Co. Cougars. Speaking of the Cougars they need to defeat Salem and get some help from some other teams to make the playoffs. It’s an uphill task but strange things do happen. Coach James has made the playoffs in all his previous season’s as the head man at Pulaski Co. The Cougars do have some seniors but there also will be some experience returning . There’s rumors that someone may transfer after the school year. It will be a wait and see thing as to who will return for next year. You got to love rumors.

The Southwest District comes down tonight between Graham and Marion. A Graham win and they are the champs and perhaps the number one seed in Group 2D next week. If Marion wins they will be a top three seed in 2D.

The Hogoheegee is Chilhowie’s with a win over Holston. A win will also get the Warriors a number one seed next week in Group 1D. The Pioneer District will be settled at Narrows as they host the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues. Both will make the playoffs with their seedings to be determined.

The Mountain Empire belongs to Galax. They play at Grayson Co and a win will have them going undefeated in the district . The Maroon Tide will more than likely be the number one seed in Group 1C. Grayson is playing for their playoff lives.

Three Rivers Championship belongs to Giles. The Spartans went 6-0 in district play and finished 8-2 overall. After a bye this week, they will host a playoff game next week against either the Fort Chiswell Pioneers, Gretna Hawks or Floyd Co. Buffaloes. Speaking of the Pioneers, Fort Chiswell needs a win over Bland Co. and a Dan River victory over Gretna. A Floyd loss to Alleghany would also help the Pioneers in their seeding. The Pioneers lose only five seniors off this years team and should be in the thick of things again next year. The Radford Bobcats are already out of the playoffs no matter the result of tonight’s game versus Glenvar. It’s been a very difficult season for the Bobcats. They have been in every game. They have been either tied or lead going into the fourth quarter of all their games. Injuries, turnovers or one offensive or defensive play away from having a winning or break even season. They are extremely young as they have been starting four -five freshmen the last few weeks. The Prioleau , Rupe, Carter, Marshall , Lytton, Taylor and Shepherd kids will all be back and with experience.

In the River Ridge Blacksburg, Salem, Patrick Henry and Cave Spring will be in the playoffs for next week. Pulaski Co. as stated earlier needs a win and some help. The Southwest will have Graham, Marion and Virginia High in the playoffs. Richland’s needs a win and they also will be in. In the Hogo, Chilhowie and Patrick Henry- Glade Spring are in .

The Pioneer will have Narrows, Covington and Parry McCluer and the Mountain Empire will be represented by Galax, Auburn, George Wythe and Fort Chiswell. Finally the Three Rivers will have Giles, Glenvar , Alleghany and Floyd Co. all in the next week’s action.

The seedings and playoff schedules for next week will be posted as soon as the information is released. Good Luck to all the teams .
