The Galax Maroon Tide got a great pitching performance from Lucas Dalton and John Key had three hits and three RBIs as they defeated the defending State Champions Auburn Eagles 7-4 to win the Region 1-C championship. Dalton pitched a complete game as he threw a three-hitter against the Eagles. Key had two singles , a two-run scoring double and and was also hit by a pitch. Cade Ashworth contributed two hits, scored two runs and hit an RBI triple . Matt Lundy also had two hits and scored twice. The Tide’s other three hits were by Jacob Stuart, Joe Berry and Dalton. Down 4-3 going into the top of the sixth the Maroon Tide rallied scoring four runs on four hits and a huge Auburn error.

Auburn was led at the plate by Keith Reed as he hit a three-run scoring double in the third to tie the game at three . He then doubled in Brady Harris for his fourth RBI in the fifth. Harris pitched the first four and two-thirds innings. He walked one and struck out eight, surrendered three runs on six hits. One of the runs he gave up was unearned. He was relieved by Taylor Newcome and he was tagged with the loss. Newcome went two and one-third innings, giving up four hits, four runs of which two were unearned. Auburn (18-2) will have to go on the road Tuesday as they face Patrick Henry-Glade Spring.

Galax only tough inning was the bottom of third when Dalton hit three batters and they all scored on a double by Reed. The Maroon Tide ( 14-6) with the victory will host Honaker. Honaker is the Region 1-D runner- up as they lost to Patrick Henry. Both of the quarterfinal games will be Tuesday . Time for both of the games will be announced.
