Bobcats remain undefeated

Radford Bobcats got 19 points from Radford University-bound Quinton Morton-Robertson and 17 from Cam Cormany to beat the Dudley(NC) Panthers 59-48 in the Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout held in the Cregger Center at Roanoke College.

Radford was up 28-20 at intermission but the Panthers would battle back to within two points twice but PJ Prioleau would bury a three-pointer as would Cormany to hold off Dudley, to improve to 13-0. Miles Jones had eight points and four rebounds for the winning Cats. Morton- Robertson also had six assists and six rebounds. Prioleau not only scored 10 but he had five big rebounds and Thor Sproule had four boards.

Dudley (8-8) got nine points from Coleman Wood and Tyler Young chipped in with nine, as well. Dudley played without two starters, Ayden Gamble and Darrien Wynn, whom both had injuries.

Cougars lose to Patriots

Scoring 39 points in the second half the Patrick Henry Patriots pulled away from the home-standing Pulaski Co. Cougars for a 62-45 win. The Patriots 13-3 got 12 points from Dayshawn Caldwell and three other players scored nine points apiece, John Stockstill, Devon Russell, and Jalen Cook. 11 of the 12 Patriots scored as they only netted six points in the opening period.

Pulaski Co. dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-8 in district play. as Dillon Porter led them with 14 points. Luke Russell scored eight and Benjamin Poe chipped in with seven. ” We played well the first half and we had a chance to upset them but we didn’t capitalize,” said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. ” I like our effort but we had trouble getting around them on defense and we had trouble, again putting the ball in the basket.”

The Cougar junior varsity improved to 10-5 with a 54-44 win over the young Patriots. David Hunley had 13 points, Bradley Hudson 10. Keyontae Kennedy had nine and Peyton McDaniel six in the win. The Patriots were led by Antoine Peyton with a game-high 14. The Cougars hit the road Tuesday as they travel to Hidden Valley. The junior varsity game tips at 5:30 and varsity around 7:00 pm.

Cougars Claw Terriers

Pulaski Co. Cougar boys halted a five-game losing streak as they defeated the visiting William Byrd Terriers 67-57. Dillon Porter led the Cougars with 19. He got help from Hayden Gray with 14 points. Jairus Miller and Noah O’Dell both contributed 10 points apiece. A J McCloud chipped in with nine points.

Byrd got 16 points from Thomas Adams and 13 from Jeffrey Williams. Byrd was tied with the home-standing Cougars at 17 at the end of the first quarter. They were just five at intermission 34-29.

The Cougars found themselves in dog fight leading 52-50 with 5:32 left in the game. They would then go on an 8-0 run in the next three minutes to put the game away, as the losing streak was snapped.

” We played hard tonight and got stops there in the fourth quarter,” said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. ” It feels good to win one and this was a team win. We got contributions from a lot of people. We got to keep grinding and improving.”

The Cougar junior varsity improved to 9-5 with a 55-44 win. They got 15 points from David Hunley and 14 from Clay Phillips. Bradley Hudson contributed 10 and Peyton McDaniel hit three-threes for his nine points. The Terriers got 16 points from Jamie Cawley and 10 from Daveon Cassabon.

Cougars will be back in the Cougar Den Friday as they host Patrick Henry. Junior varsity tips at 5:30 and varsity at 7:00 pm.
