Game Forfeit ?

RSN / R-S has learned that Jenkins (KY) High School has forfeited its game with Rye Cove, due to lack of players. The game was to take place Friday night August 30th at Jenkins (KY) High School. Rye Cove wins by way of forfeit if they can’t find a team to replace them, with. Jenkins (KY) is also scheduled to play at Twin Springs Oct. 4th. That game is now also in question.

Difficulties- loading games

There is a problem with loading the upcoming games for this Friday -Aug. 30th. I have scheduled the local games (22) of them but the public can’t see as of now. Go Daddy/ WordPress is aware and are working to fix the problem. The games hopefully will appear on the event page and or scoreboard of my website. Sorry for the inconvenience at this time!!

Football schedule changes

The Bland Co. Bears canceled their football season due to lack of players. That decision has affected other teams that had Bland on their schedule. Fort Chiswell High School has now replaced them with Montcalm (WV) for Friday, Oct. 18 at Fort Chiswell. The Pioneers open date is now, November 8. Grayson Co. and Eastern Montgomery both had the Bears on their slate and will now play each other Friday, Oct. 4 at Eastern Montgomery. Eastern Montgomery’s open date has been moved to Friday, September 27. Both Narrows and Northwood also had Bland Co. scheduled and they will now play each other. That game will take place on Friday, September 6 at Narrows. Northwood’s open date will now be September 13.

As of now, George Wythe and Galax will go with a nine-game schedule.

No word on the other teams- Craig Co, Auburn, and Rural Retreat- on if they will replace Bland or not.

Coaching changes in the area

Alleghany Mountaineers have hired Gavin Hayes as their new baseball coach. He replaces Gary Rice who had been at Alleghany for 40 years, or so. The Blacksburg Bruins have hired David Dunstan to be their new baseball coach, as he replaces Eric Morgan.

RSN/Rascal-Sports has been hearing that George Wythe High School will not renew the contract of boys basketball head coach Pat Burns. Burns was in his second tour with the Maroons. He is also the former head coach of Pulaski Co. Cougars boys basketball.

Cats , Cougars win their scrimmages

Radford Bobcats traveled to Grayson Co. and won their scrimmage with the Blue Devils of Grayson Co. (21-0) three scores to none. Radford Qb Zane Rupe scored on a one-yard run and PJ Prioleau scampered 40 yards for another score for the Bobcats. Rupe would hit Prioleau on a 40-yard pass for the other score.

Pulaski Co. beat the Bluefield (WV) Beavers ( 12-0) two scores to none in Harvey’s Classic held at Pulaski Co. High School. Magna Vista was scheduled to play but due to some illness, the Warriors had to cancel. The Cougars scored on a 21-yard run from Keyontae Kennedy and then Landon Daniel caught a 20-yard pass from Qb Drew Dalton.

Radford and Pulaski Co. will now meet this Friday night -Aug. 23rd – at Pulaski Co. High School. The game is billed as, ” The Battle of the Bridge”.
