Pioneer commits

Fort Chiswell Pioneer basketball player Kolton Sutphin has committed to Bluefield State to further his basketball and academic career. Sutphin was a four-year starter for the Pioneers and was named to all-region this past season. Congrats Kolton.

Ridgeview names new coach

Former Fort Chiswell High School head football coach, Todd Tiller has been named the new football coach at Ridgeview High School. Tiller was the head coach at Fort Chiswell up to the summer of 2018. He left to go back home and became an assistant coach at the newly named Ridgeview in Dickenson Co., Virginia. Ridgeview is a Class 2A school formed from Haysi and Clintwood High Schools. Coach Tiller was at Fort Chiswell for four years, last three of those as the head man. He had a 17-18 record and guided the Pioneers to the playoffs in two of those three years. Tiller played at old Haysi High School and is from the town of Bee, Virginia.

Cougar girls basketball player signs

Pulaski Co. Lady Cougars basketball player Maddie Ratcliff has signed to further her academic and basketball career to Concord (WV) University. Ratcliff helped lead the Lady Cougars to the state finals in 2018-19 and to the regional playoffs in 2019-2020.

Coach steps down

The James River ( Buchanan) Knights head basketball coach Mike Goad has retired. Coach Goad won 400 games and a state title in 2010. He was the head coach for the Knights for 18 years.

Head coach leaves

The Patrick Henry- Glade Spring Rebels are looking for a new head football coach. Head coach Mark Palmer who led the Rebels to a 13-1 record and Class 1 Region D championship this past fall has stepped down. He has taken the head coaching job at Anderson Co. High School in Kentucky- per Tim Hayes of BHC Sports.
