Pulaski Co. Cougars girls basketball program has named Scott Ratcliff as their new head coach. Scott has been an AAU coach for the highly successful Pulaski Co. Wolves for 16 years. He has worked with many of the girls currently on the middle school and high school teams. He is a lifelong resident of Pulaski Co.

VHSL to meet again in July
The VHSL will meet in July and again in August. A decision on fall sports hasn’t been made yet. One plan has winter sports starting in mid-December and runs thru late February. Fall sports would then start in mid- February and go to early May. Spring sports would be mid-April to late June. VHSL is still gathering data and a decision will be made in the next four to eight weeks.
VHSL looking to cut back
VHSL is looking to cut the six classifications in high school sports to just four classes. Class 1 would be schools with 375 students or less. 376-751 would be Class 2. Class 3 would be schools with an enrollment of 752-1199. 1200 students and more would be Class 4. There will be a meeting in September and a final vote would take place in February of 2021. If The new classifications are passed the rules would go into effect in 2023. On a personal note: The six classes now just need some tweaking, not two classes eliminated.
Padgett new coach at PH-Glade Spring
Seth Padgett has been named the new football coach at Patrick Henry- Glade Spring High School. Padgett replaces Mark Palmer who left to be the new coach at Anderson Co., in Kentucky. Padgett was head coach in 2017 at Santa Rosa Academy in California. He has been an assistant at Fort Chiswell, Chilhowie, and PH- Glade Spring High Schools. He attended and played football at now-defunct St. Paul.
Out of season practices to restart
VHSL has announced that beginning Monday, June 15, 2020, that out of season practices can resume. All schools must submit health plans to (VDOE), Virginia Department of Education.
Galax names new coach
Galax High School has named Shane Allen as their new head football coach. Coach Allen has been an assistant coach on the Maroon Tide staff under Mark Dixon. Dixon left for the Pulaski Co. High School. Coach Allen was the head coach at Tazewell before coming to Galax and was also an assistant at Carroll Co. under then-head coach Tom Hale.
