Cougars’ hard efforts defeat Carroll Co.

Dublin…Pulaski Co. coming off a very tough loss to Christiansburg and losing some players bounced back to defeat Carroll Co. 55-47.

C C Grubb pumping in 16 points led them. Logan Robertson had 14 and Bryan Roberson finished with 11. Roberson hit all four of his free throws late and Robertson swished three of four down the stretch. Trent Blankenship also hit two of two from the charity stripe to help seal the game.

The Cavaliers were down 39-26 after three quarters but fought their way back to within two (45-43) with 2:23 remaining. Adam Horton had 13 points to lead the Cavs. Garrett Haynes and Micah Johnson had 11 and 10 points, respectfully.

The Cougars (5-2) opened the game going up 19-14 after the opening period. They would expand on that by taking a 32-18 into intermission.

“We had more intensity and played much better tonight,” said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. “We played hard and smart for the most part. We got a little gassed there in the fourth quarter.” The Cougars played without Bryant Grubb who was playing in an all-star football game. They also moved up three junior varsity kids to replace some former players. Pulaski Co. stroked six three’s in the game and hit 15 of 18 free throws.

The Cougar junior varsity moved to 6-1 on the season as they demolished the young Cavs 53-29. Julian Black had 10 points and three other players – Dre Grubb, Jairus Miller and Luke Russell all contributed with eight points apiece. Carroll Co. was led in scoring by Ian Herman’s 14.

Pulaski Co. travels to Galax Monday night and then will play them at the Cougar Den this Thursday in a make-up contest.
