Auburn, Stonewall Jackson to play for State Title

Pulaski…The Stonewall Jackson Generals and the Auburn Eagles will play for group 1A State Baseball Championship after both won their semifinal games at Historic Calfee Park in Pulaski, VA. In the opening game, Stonewall Jackson (14-11) defeated Eastside 11-3. The Generals scored six runs in their half of the fourth inning putting them up 9-3. Tyler Summers led the Generals with three hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Nick Dotson had two hits with two RBIs and scored two runs. David Moomaw and Logan Ritchie scored two runs apiece and had two hits apiece. Cole Holsinger pitched a complete game as he held Eastside to just two hits. He struck out four and walked two to pick up the win.

Eastside only two hits were by Cole Harness as he singled in the third and sixth innings. He had two of their RBIs. Austin Smallwood took the loss as he went just four innings. He surrendered ten hits and gave up nine runs.

The second contest saw Auburn scoring three runs in their first at-bat as they went on to defeat the Windsor Dukes 5-1. Offensively, Auburn (23-2) was led by Hunter Perkins who doubled in two runs in the first inning. He also scored a run. Keith Reed went six innings striking out eight and surrendering just five hits to pick up the win. Dylan Akers and Adam Quesenberry both scored two runs to back the pitching of Reed. Windsor (20-4) got two hits from Hunter Williams, and Hunter Whitley singled in their only run in the bottom of the fourth. Williams, the starting pitcher for Windsor, lasted just 3.2 innings as his wildness led to eight walks. He surrendered five runs on just three hits. He also hit a batter and threw four wild pitches. Neither Auburn nor Stonewall Jackson have won a state baseball title.
