Cougars hang on, defeats Cavaliers

Up 47-33 with just over one minute left in the third quarter the Pulaski Co. Cougars saw that lead cut to just three with three minutes remaining in the contest, 53-50. The Cougars would then go on a seven to nothing run to end the game to beat the Carroll Co. Cavaliers 60-50.

” Give the Cavaliers credit they battled back and we got into a dogfight there at the end of the game ,” said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. “Coach Hawks had them playing hard and they didn’t give up . The Haynes kid ( Garrett) hurt us in the low post ,” added Hart.

Pulaski placed three players into double figures. CC Grubb paced them with 18, Miguel Garcia 16 and Isaac Poe contributed 13. The Cougars hit six three-pointers to the Cavaliers two.

Garrett Haynes had a game high 23 points for the Cavaliers and Jordon Combs had nine. Point guard Micah Johnson turned his ankle early in the game and never returned to action for Carroll Co.

Pulaski Co. 9-4,3-2 returns to action Thursday night as they travel to Christiansburg . JV action tips at 5:30 and varsity around 7pm.
