Fort Chiswell to take on Floyd

Max Meadows…Fort Chiswell, coming off a heart stopping last play of the game victory over Radford, will now face another tough opponent in the Floyd Buffaloes. The Buffaloes are 3-0 and haven’t allowed a single point in their three wins. Their wins are over Christiansburg 18-0, Patrick Co. 48-0, and they defeated Auburn this past Friday at Auburn 21-0. They’ve scoring 29 points per game and allowed none.
The Pioneers will enter the game also at 3-0. They are averaging just under 29 per game and have allowed just nine per game on defense.
Floyd is lead on offense by senior quarterback Ian Berry and junior running back Presley Yates. Yates is a 6’1” 182 pound back and Barry is 6’2” 178. Their two best lineman are center Michael Cook, a 6’3” 320 sophomore, and senior Josh Landreth a 243 lb. senior. The Buffaloes have 10 seniors and 15 juniors on their varsity roster. Head Coach Winfred Beale is in his 37th season at Floyd. He has a record of 213-168-4 at the helm. On defense they are led by senior Jarrett Agee, a linebacker, Bary, the safety, and lineman Landreth.
Fort Chiswell head coach Todd Tiller said, ”On offense they like to run out of the I-formation. Bary, the quarterback, is very athletic from what I’ve seen. Throws the ball real well and will run some. They like to run sweeps, bootlegs and traps.“ Coach then added, ”On defense they’ll show a 4-4-3 . They haven’t blitzed in their first three games. They haven’t had to either. Their secondary has played zone, cover three.” Coach then remarked, “Coach Beale’s been there for over 35 years and does a fine job. They are well coached and don’t beat themselves . That’s a heck of a tribute to their head coach.“
Coach was then asked about his teams health after three games and he replied, “We’re in good shape physically. We need to come out more fired up than this past Friday. We were a little lethargic. Some of that I believe was because we had beaten George Wythe and everybody patted the kids on the back all week. I’ve told them last Friday is over and we’ve got to play this Friday.”
The game at Floyd Co. High School this Friday is scheduled for a 7:00 pm.
