Mountain West Conference names player and coach of the year

Fort Chiswell…The Fort Chiswell Pioneers finished their baseball season with a 18-4 record and played in the regional semifinals. Dallas Beasley has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, and head coach Derrick Jackson was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year for the Pioneers.

Beasley, a senior, was 9-2 this season on the mound. He had an earned run average of 0.95 with 74 strikeouts. He finished with a 16-2 pitching record for the Pioneers and 115 K’s in his career.

Coach Jackson led this Fort Chiswell team to a very impressive 18-4 mark after losing most of his team from last year. Last year’s team went to the State Semifinals. This year’s team had only two seniors. The last two seasons have seen the Pioneers go 37-9.

Named first team Mountain West Conference were Joe Blevins, Daniel Boardwine, Wayne Turley, Ethan Armstrong, Greg Sanchez and Tucker Robertson, all of Chilhowie. Beasley, Chance Davis, Tanner Bailey and Jacob Coake from Fort Chiswell. Booger Owens of George Wythe and Jacob Stuart of Galax also were named to first team.

The second team was led by Fort Chiswell second baseman Leighton Dunford, a freshman. Joining him from George Wythe were Josh Devine, Dylan Anderson, Dave Castanon, Avery Mabe, Brandon Collins and Avery Goins. Daniel Huff and Cade Ashworth of Galax. Trent O’Neil, Justin Woodward and Cameron Bear from Rural Retreat and Matt Delp of Chilhowie.

Named on the honorable mention team were Fort Chiswell’s Aaron Crawford and Sean Morgan. Ben Williams and Matt Lundy from Galax, Zach Hall and Alex Adams of Chilhowie. Colby Sprouse and Jacob Davis of Rural Retreat, Walker Nowers and T J Martin from George Wythe as well as Bland Co.’s Dylan Jackson and Chase Dillow.
