Pioneers play in 7 on 7 at Emory & Henry

The Fort Chiswell Pioneers traveled to Emory & Henry College to play in a 12 team 7 on 7 scrimmage and tournament. They faced Eastern Montgomery, defending state champs Appomattox and Virginia High in the morning scrimmages . They lost to Appomattox three scores to one. They lost to Eastern Montgomery four scores to three in the last play of the scrimmage. They then beat Virginia High three to one to end the morning session. Pioneer quarterback Tanner Bailey hit Colby Rider for four scores in the sessions.

After a lunch break the single elimination tournament got under way as the Pioneers played Marion and got down early and lost five scores to three. Anthony Morris scored twice and Rider scored hid five score of the day in the loss.

Fort Chiswell head coach Todd Tiller said,” We improved each game and I saw lot of positives.” He then added,” We have lot of work to do after the VHSL dead period is over. After the dead period we will go back to work and improve more.”

The Pioneers will get back into action on July 14 supposedly against Richlands. Appomattox and Richlands played for the 7 on 7 championship at Emory and Henry with the defending champions Appomattox winning.
