Pioneers slow the force of the Hurricanes

Marion… The Fort Chiswell Pioneers went on the road to Marion and came away with an impressive 6-1 victory over the home-standing Marion Scarlet Hurricanes.

The Pioneers got a strong pitching performance from Dallas Beasley. He pitched four innings giving up just one run and struck out three.

Marion’s (6-6) lone run came on a home run from Austin Wyatt in the second inning. Marion finished with just six hits, and they left eight runners stranded.

Fort Chiswell (8-1) scored two runs in the first and one run in each the fourth and fifth innings. They scored two insurance runs in the seventh on a double by Lucas Edmonds. Beasley helped his own cause driving in one run. Bryson Booher, who came in to close the game, scored a couple runs, as did Tanner Bailey.

Fort Chiswell Pioneer head coach Derrick Jackson said, ”We got a good performance from Beasley and Booher on the mound. We came up with some key hits as well as key plays on defense.“ Coach added, ”This was a big win for us after the disappointing loss to Bluefield on Monday. Fort Chiswell got a couple hits apiece from Edmonds, Bailey and Booher.”

The Pioneers will be back home Friday as they take on the Bears of Bland Co. The first pitch of the game is scheduled for 5 pm.
