Pioneers win Benefit Game

Bristol…Fort Chiswell traveled to Bristol and came away with a 27-13 victory over the John Battle Trojans. They got touchdown runs from QB Brody Crockett and running backs Sean Morgan and Tyler Jakubiak. Morgan finished with 61 yards on 16 carries. Jakubiak had 52 yards on 10 rushes. Sophomore Denver Brown led all the Pioneers with 108 yards rushing. Senior tanner Bailey finished with 56.

Fort Chiswell’s defense controlled the whole first half as they held John Battle to only two first downs. Their lone score in the half came on a kick off return.

“We played extremely well the first half,” said a pleased head coach Todd Tiller of Fort Chiswell. “I’m proud of the way our offensive line performed tonight as we rushed for over 300 yards. Defensively I’m proud of how they performed also.” Coach then added, “I thought Ethan Woods, Billy Shrewsbury, Aaron Crawford and Tanner Bailey, to name a few, all played exceptionally well. I loved how the defense swarmed to the football. We’ll get back to work this week and get ready for next Friday’s opening game of the season.”

Fort Chiswell will open the regular season next Friday on the road as they travel to Rural Retreat. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
