Bobcats win seventh consecutive

Playing on a cold, rainy and foggy night in Hillsville, the Radford Bobcats rolled past the Cavaliers of Carroll Co. 38-7. Marshall carried the ball nine times for 34, caught four passes for 35. Prioleau gained 70 yards rushing on 12 first-half carries. Rupe threw for 105 yards and rushed for another 50.

The Radford defense after halftime shut down the Cavaliers running attack as they held them to just three rushing yards in the third quarter and allowed just 194 total yards of offense. The Bobcats finished with 326 total yards of offense.

The second half saw the Bobcats get a 23-yard field goal from sophomore placekicker Connor Lytton, JW Bethea caught a nine-yard pass for six and Darius Brubeck scored one a one-yard plunge for a score after he had broken loose for a 50-yard run late in the game.

Carroll Co. ( 3-6, 2-3 ) got their lone score at the 3:57 mark left in the fourth quarter when sophomore running back Tristan Peckron took the hand-off, went off tackle and down the Cavalier sideline for a 65-yard gallop for six.

Radford (8-1, 5-0) head coach Matthew Saunders remarked, ” We scored early in the first quarter and then again after a fumble and it helped set the tone for the game. Our defense played very well again tonight. ” When asked about shutting the Cavaliers running attack down in the third quarter, Coach Saunders said, “We made a couple adjustments and we controlled the line of scrimmage much better. I’m really pleased how we performed tonight. It wasn’t the most ideal conditions out there. It was a physical game.”

Radford will now travel to Glenvar next Friday to take on the undefeated number one ranked Class 2-C Region Highlanders. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
