Cave Spring bulldozes Cougars

Dublin…Sometimes it’s just not your day. The Pulaski Cougars ran into a buzz saw as they took on the Knights of Cave Spring. Playing their first home game since April 10th, the Cougars got embarrassed losing 15-0 in five innings.

Cave Spring scored five runs in their first at bat, three more in the second and seven more in the third as they then cleared their bench. They had 17 hits as Logan Altizer and Caleb Pritchard both had four each. Altizer scored three times and knocked in two. He had two doubles, two singles and also drew a walk. Pritchard crossed the plate twice and had one RBI. John Buster, AJ Cacciatore, and Conner Caldwell all had two hits apiece. Caldwell and Trey Hodson both had three RBIs. Hodson went the first two innings on the mound to pick up the victory. He struck out and allowed just two hits.

Pulaski Co. (6-6, 1-4) had only four hits in the slaughter rule loss. John Howlett, Hunter Shrewsbury and Caleb Kirtner had singles. The only extra base hit for them was a double in the first inning by Chris Remington. Those were the only Cougars to reach base. Starting pitcher, southpaw Brandon Neel lasted just one and two-thirds innings. He gave up eight runs, all earned, on nine hits and was relieved by Kirtner. He would last just one and one-third innings surrendering seven runs on six hits and walked three.

Cougar head coach Jared King said, “We just left our pitches up and a good offensive team made us pay. We put the ball on a tee for them and our command wasn’t good. They hit the baseball and they jumped on us early and got us down.”

The Cougars travel to Roanoke Friday as they play Patrick Henry.
