Chilhowie loses to Riverheads

Chilhowie and Riverheads met for the second straight year in the Class 1 state title game. Last year it was 42-0 Riverheads. This year Riverheads won 35-7, as they have now won three straight state titles.

Riverheads had the lone score in the first half as Moose Lee caught a rare pass for a 45-yard catch and run in the first 56 seconds of the game.Qb Justin  McWhorter faked a handoff on the third play of the game and raised up and hit Lee, wide open over the middle for the 45 yard score that held up the entire first half.

 McWhorter quarterback sneaked  in from one-yard out and Peyton Skillman’s kick had the Gladiators   up 14-0 at the 5:50 mark of the third quarter. They would strike again as they intercepted a Chilhowie pass 17 seconds later that was returned for another touchdown. Jaden Phillips tipped the ball and caught it and ran 32 yards put them up 21-0 with 5:33 left in the third.

Chilhowie  ( 14-1) would finally get on the scoreboard on their next possession as Zach Cale hit Logan Adams for a five yard touchdown pass and Daniel Hutton’s point after made it 21-7 with 1:25 showing.

Riverheads ( 13-1) would capped the game off as Phillips scored on a one-yard run with 9:01 showing in the game. They would score again with 4:17  left as Elijah Dunlap raced 4- yards to paydirt for the 35-7 final.
