Cougars held to one hit ; lost to Blue Demons

Christiansburg… When it’s raining and cold and that’s the best part of the game, you know its not good. Thee Pulaski Co. Cougars (8-9-1) baseball team lost 13-0 to the Blue Demons of Christiansburg.

Christiansburg (17-2) sent 17 batters to the plate in the very first inning and scored 12 times before the Cougars could get the third out.

Cougar pitching gave up 10 walks, five hits and two wild pitches in the bottom of the first. They walked the first six hitters of the game, with the only out being an attempted steal. Vann Prince was the starter and after the sixth walk Thomas Anderson replaced him. He proceeded to give up back-to-back doubles, a single and a walk before he got an out. He then gave up another double and three straight walks. Zakk Jones replaced him and the first batter he faced, doubled in two more runs and then he got the third out to stop the bleeding.

Blue Demons got a one hit shut out from pitcher Will Stout in the five-inning contest. He struck four and walked three. Alex Perkins led them at the plate going two for two. He singled, doubled, walked and hit a sac fly to knock in three and scored twice. John Tuck was two of four, with two doubles and had four RBI and scored once. Luke Durham doubled in two runs and scored one.

The only hit for the Cougars was by Braeden Blevins, the fifth inning leadoff man. Kam Hall, Jon Osteen, and Dylan Danner each walked. A pitch hit Grant Ostten and Nathanael Remington reached on an error for the only runners for the game for Pulaski Co.

Cougar head coach Jared King said,” Some days it’s just not your day. Today definitely wasn’t ours. Our pitchers walked to many and we got in a hole right off the bat. “ He then said,” This can be a humbling game. I hope our players realize that. That first inning obviously was a killer for us.”

The Cougars will be right back in action today as they travel to Salem to take on the Spartans in the last regular season game. Game time is 5 pm.

NOTE: It looks like the Cougars will play Wm. Fleming Saturday at 2 pm. at home in the opening game of Conference 24 playoffs. In case of rain it would be Monday at 5pm.
