Cougars defeat Salem

Pulaski Co. boys basketball have had their ups and downs so far this season. Playing without their head coach is the latest thing they have had to overcome. The Cougars did overcome as they hit 13 3’s en route to a 69-56 victory over the Salem Spartans.

Peyton McDaniel stroked seven three’s and senior point guard Josh Bourne hit three for the victorious Cougars.  Pulaski Co. took an early 24-12 advantage after the opening period.

Salem would battle back outscoring the home team 21-13 to go into intermission down just four 37-33. Tyrell Green and Hunter Bayne both scored seven points apiece in the second quarter for the comeback.

Pulaski Co. would then come out smokin’ to start the second half outscoring the Spartans 15-2 and would take a 57-42 lead going into the fourth quarter. McDaniel scored nine points, J J Gulley six, and Bourne five in the third quarter.

The Cougars would basically match the Spartans in the final period to win the game for interim-acting head coach Rajai Hines.  Cougar head coach Tyler Cannoy has been on covid protocols and should return for their next game.

After the game, interim head coach Hines said, ” This was a good win for us. I’m glad we got back on the winning track and I’m looking forward to having Coach Cannoy back.”
