Cougars defeat Tigers for three in a row

Bluefield…Playing for the third time in three days, the Cougars won their third straight as they defeated Princeton 10-5.

Hunter Shrewsbury had three hits in the win as he scored one run and knocked in one. Camden Underwood and Trent Blankenship both had two RBIs. Thomas Anderson was the starting and winning pitcher for the Cougars. The Cougars got a season high 14 hits and all their starters had at least one hit except Dylan Dinner. He walked twice and was hit by a pitch as he reached base three times.

Princeton was led by Christian Shafer with three hits and scored a run and also had two runs batted in. He was the starting and losing pitcher for the Tigers, who are now 0-2. Ethan Webb has two hits and crossed the plate once.

Pulaski Co. used four pitchers in the win. They jumped on the Tigers for six runs in the top of the first. Princeton pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the first to make it 6-1. Cougars would score three more in the top of the third to push the lead to 9-1.

Princeton would score twice in their half of the third and another one in the fourth to cut the margin to 9-4.

“We executed offensively early,“ said Cougar head coach Jared King. “Our pitchers did some good things tonight. I thought Brandon Neel got out of a tight spot in the third inning and Alex Akers and Trent Blankenship did their jobs on the mound. They threw real well for us.”

The Cougars (3-1) hit the road as they go to Christiansburg Tuesday with the first pitch slated for 5 pm.
