Cougars easily take the win over Galax

Dublin… Playing on beautiful day for baseball the Pulaski Co. Cougars clobbered the Maroon Tide of Galax 22-7 in five innings. The Cougars stopped a three game losing streak as they got their best starting pitcher effort of the season. Dylan Danner went four innings giving up three runs on five hits as he struck out three. He gave up just one hit in the first three innings and no runs as he started his fourth inning. He retired eight in a row at one point from the first through the third. He also walked twice, scored two runs and knocked in one.

Grant Osteen led the Cougars (4-5-1) as he went four for four, knocking in three and scoring twice. Andrew Lowe had four RBI as he went two for three at the plate. Jordan Lytton who got a start at second base had two hits to go along with two walks. He scored three times and knocked in three.

Galax (6-7) used six pitchers in the game as Jake Snyder took the loss giving up six runs in the first inning. Caleb Spurlin was two for three, scoring two and had two RBI. Lucas Dalton had two RBI as well for the Tide.

Pulaski Co. scored six runs in the first, one in the second, five in the third and 10 more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Cougar head coach Jared King said, ”We needed this kind of game. We lost some tough games here the last couple weeks are so. We lost three in a row and tied one in the last four games.“

Coach then added, ”I thought Danner (Dylan) pitched real well for us. It was probably our best start for a starting pitcher. He brought a lot of energy to the mound. He got tired there in the fourth but what a great effort he gave us. I thought Jordan (Lytton) played real well for us. He came through at the plate and at second base defensively. Lowe and Grant Osteen both had a big day for us. When those two hit like that, we can score some runs. It was great to get most all the players in for some action. We took advantage of some of Galax’s mistakes like some of the teams have done to us.”

The Cougars will be back in action this afternoon as they host the Carroll Co. Cavaliers. First pitch is slated for 5 pm.
