Cougars get big win over Tigers

Dublin…Playing on a sunny afternoon for their first home game of the season, the Pulaski Co. Cougars throttled the Princeton Tigers 11-1 in five innings.

Cougar senior catcher Andrew Lowe was two for three at the plate as he hit a three-run homer in the first and then a two-run double in the second to knock in two more runs. Senior Lefty hurler J T Thompson went three innings giving up just one hit and struck out five for the mound win.

Jon Osteen knocked in two runs and scored a run. Kam Hall had two hits and one RBI. Bailey Ayers, Jordan Lytton and Camden Underwood all have one RBI each and they also scored one run each.

Princeton, playing their first game of the season, was shaky at times as they committed six errors. Hunter Burnette was the starting and losing pitcher. The Tigers were held to just three hits by the Cougars pitchers. Tanner Lockhart had one of the hits and scored their only run. Zach Powell and Ethan Webb had the other hits for the Tigers.

“We got most of the team in the game and that’s always good to do,” said Cougar coach Jared King. “We had good pitching from Thompson, Prince and Dunnigan today. I thought we played well and we had some guys that stepped up.” He then said, “With us having to play multiple games a week we need different players to step up for us.“ When asked about Lowe and his early season hitting, Coach King replied, ”He’s a four-year player and he needs to be our leader. He needs to lead us offensively. I’m proud of how we performed today.”

The Cougars will be playing their third game in three days as they travel to Princeton. The Cougar junior varsity plays at 5 pm and the varsity is scheduled for a 7 pm start, all at Princeton.
