Cougars get demolished by Patriots

Roanoke… There are two halves in a game! The Pulaski Co. Cougars found that out all too well at Patrick Henry. Down only five at halftime 30-25, the Cougars got smoked, blitzed in the third quarter 23-5. As the Patriots stomped the Cougars 69-44.

Patrick Henry doubled up the score in the second half 38-19 and the Cougars, playing their third game in four days, looked it in the second half.

“We played the wrong team for this third game in four days,” said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. “Their pressure man to man defense took it out of our legs and we had nothing left there in the third quarter.” Coach then added, ”Hey we just have to look ahead and forget about this one.”

Patrick Henry placed four players into double figures. Terrell Anderson led them with 15, as he hit three three’s. Andrew Harris had 13 as he hit two long shots. Quishon Calfee had 11 and Dom Joyce added 11. The Patriots hit 10 three’s for the game and had 27 field goals total.

The Cougars (8-3) started fine, leading 14-12 after one and only down five at intermission. No Cougar players scored in double digits. Senior point guard led them with nine. Miguel Garcia and Logan Robertson both chipped in with seven and both hit a three.

The loss stopped the Cougars three game-winning streak. Next week the Cougars will once again play three games. Monday they host the Terriers of William Byrd Monday. Junior varsity action starts at 5:30 and varsity around 7pm.
