Cougars get win over Terriers

Dublin…Don’t know if people have heard of an old saying that goes,” The most consistent thing is they are inconsistent “? That sums up the Cougar boys basketball team this season.

Playing their best game in at least three or four games the Cougars got 12 points apiece from Austin Reinhardt and C C Grubb to pull out a big win over the Wm. Byrd Terriers 48-45.

The Cougars trailed 21-19 at intermission and 35-30 going into the fourth quarter. The biggest play of the contest was perhaps when Terriers big man Devon Kasey picked up his fourth foul with around four minutes to go. He then proceeded to pick up a technical after that and got his fifth and fouled out, with Byrd leading 37-36. Kasey had been held scoreless the entire first half but scored 12 of the Terriers 14 third quarter points. He finished with 14 points as was the Terriers leading scorer.

William Byrd got 11 points from guard Stephen Olsen and sharpshooter Alex Fitch was held to just six points.

Bryan Roberson and Bryant Grubb both came off the Cougar bench to score nine points each in the victory as the Cougars ended a two game losing streak. They are now 10-6 on the campaign with two road games upcoming, where they have really struggled lately.

“We made enough plays to win tonight, “ said Cougar coach Andrew Hart. “If we could get more consistent we can be fairly good. This was a huge win for us and we made some big plays the last minute.” Coach Hart then said,” The technical on Kasey (Devon) for them turned out being a big turn in the game. He had hurt us inside the third quarter.”

The Cougar junior varsity won a nail biter 54-52 over the Terriers. Wm. Byrd was lead by Thomas Adams with 15 points. The Cougars got a huge game from James Jackson as he tossed in 23 points. Dre Grubb had eight points, as did Julian Black. The junior varsity are now 10-6 on the season.

Pulaski Co. will travel to Roanoke Friday night as they take on Hidden Valley. Junior varsity game begins at 5:30 with the varsity tipping at 7 pm.
