Cougars lose home opener

Pulaski Co. went on a 17-2 run late in the game but came up short on the scoreboard, losing to the visiting Christiansburg Blue Demons 46-41. The Demons got 19 points from Isaac Hayden and 10 off the bench from Matthew Collins.

The Cougars (1-1) got 12 points from postman Dillon Porter. Hayden Gray hit a couple of three-pointers and finished with eight. The first half saw them out of sync and sluggish. The 1-2-2 zone bothered the Cougars as they scored only four points in the opening quarter. They would be down 19-15 at halftime.

Things would get worse for the Cougars (1-1) as they would get outscored 18-8 in the third quarter. Trailing 37-23 starting the last period they would then come to life as offensively they finally started moving and driving the ball. Porer would score eight of his points and Gray five of his points. Porter’s layup would bring them to within one 42-41 with just 38 seconds left.

Christiansburg’s (3-2) Hayden would hit two big foul shots with 16 seconds to go and after a missed Cougar shot, Trey Wilson would ice the game with five seconds to go hitting both of his foul shots.

” We got outcoached and outplayed tonight. We finally started moving and driving the ball there in the fourth quarter that got us back into the game.” , said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. ” Their 1-2-2 zone we hadn’t seen and it really bothered us for three quarters.”
