Galax…The Pulaski Co. Cougars came out hitting three’s and exercised their control over the Galax Maroon Tide, totally dominating the Tide 72-20.

The Cougars almost hit as many three’s as regular field goals, 13 three’s to 15 two’s.

Playing only their second game of the season due to the football team advancing to the state semifinals, the Maroon Tide found themselves down 21-4 after one quarter. Gage Cook and Noah Hutchens led the Tide with just six points apiece.

C C Grubb led Pulaski Co. with 25 points as he stroked six three’s and didn’t play in the fourth quarter. Heath Gray pumped in 14 and Bryan Roberson contributed 12. All 12 players on the Cougar roster saw lots of action, with ten players scoring.

It was a classic mismatch from the get-go. The Cougars even shut the Maroon Tide out in the second and fourth quarters.

Cougar head coach Andrew Hart said, ”We shot the ball extremely well. Everyone got to play and 10 of the 12 players got into the scorebook.” He then added, ”We need to improve the next couple days before we play again Thursday.” Galax veteran head coach Verl Brown in his 38th year remarked,” They shot the Christmas lights out tonight and we couldn’t do anything about it.”

The win improved the Cougars to 6-2 with one game remaining before the holiday break.

Pulaski Co. junior varsity won their fourth straight and improved to 7-1 with a 54-11 thrashing of the Maroon Tide junior varsity. Only two Tide players scored, Cole Pickett with six and Kelley Barnes had five, The Cougars got 14 points from James Jackson, 11 by Jairus Miller. Justin Roberson had six, Gage Mannon five, Chris Hay, Dillon Porter and Hayden Gray all contributed four points each.

Pulaski Co will be back in action Thursday at the Cougar Den. They will host Galax as the junior varsity plays at 5:30 and the varsity contest will tip at around 7 pm.
