Giles bounces the Bobcats

Radford…The Giles Spartans got a complete game four-hitter from starting pitcher Trent Pennington, and Austin Pennington had two RBIs and scored a run as the Spartans beat Radford 6-1.

Austin Pennington was two for three at the plate as his double off the right field fence knocked in two during the Spartans four-run second inning. Trent Pennington gave up just four hits and struck out eight. His curveball really kept the Bobcats off balance the whole game.

Radford (7-5-1) got hits from Taylor Newcome, Reese Williamson, Roman Bonet and Ty Hamblin. The Bobcats only run came in the bottom of the sixth as Bonet reached on an error, and Hamblin singled him to third. Bonet then scored on a ground out by Trace Shepherd. The only other threat by Radford came in the first inning as Williamson reached base on a walk. Matt Rehab walked and Bonet’s single loaded the bases with two outs. Humbling then came up but was struck out by Pennington to leave the bases loaded.

Giles (3-7) scored four runs in the second and two more in the fourth. The Spartans got to Radford relief pitcher Chance Morris who took the loss.

The Spartans got six hits but drew six walks. Hunter Merrix knocked in a run and scored twice.

Radford head coach Greg Ridpath said, ”The Giles pitcher really kept us off balance the whole game. My hat’s off to him. They just beat us. We had a couple chances there but didn’t get it done.”

Radford will be back home tomorrow (Friday) as they take on Glenvar. Game time is slated for 4:30.
