Hot-shooting Botetourt downs Cougars

The Lord Botetourt Cavaliers shot the lights out, as they hit 10 three’s and also connected on 19-21 foul shots to beat Pulaski Co. in the Cougar Den 73-61. Jamison Foley scored 24 of his 26 points in the first half as they were up 47-31 at intermission. Then point guard Evan Eller dropped in 10 of his 16 points in the second half as they improved to 6-11 on the season.

The Cougars got 26 points from Dillon Porter and 15 from senior Benjamin Poe. Their record dropped to 5-12 as they just fell too far behind in the first half. A half where they were down by 19 points on two different occasions. They did cut their deficit to six, 59-65 with 3:27 left in the game. They would have three different possessions but missed a shot and committed two turnovers.

Lord Botetourt (6-11) would then salt the game away, going on a 6-0 run. ” We weren’t ready to play the first half,” said a disappointed Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. ” Botetourt shot the lights out and we didn’t shoot the ball well, again. Give them credit to come into our place and perform the way they did.”He then added, ” Give them credit for shooting the way they did. ”

The Cougar junior varsity got 14 points from David Hunley to help win a closely played game over the young Cavaliers 54-51. Bradley Hudson had12 points, Clay Phillips seven and JJ Gulley six for the Cougars. Lord Botetourt was led by Connor Fuhrman’s 14 points. The young Cougars saw their record improve to 11-6. The Cougars will be back in action Friday night. They will play Blacksburg in the Cougar Den as it will be senior night. It’s the last regular season game for four seniors. The junior Varsity tips at 5:30 and varsity around 7:00 pm.
