Pulaski Co. defeats Patrick Henry

Dublin…The Pulaski Co. Cougar baseball team got a well-pitched game from senior Kellen Dalton, as they defeated the Patriots of Patrick Henry 3-1.

Dalton, playing baseball for the first time since he was an eighth grader, got the win, as he allowed just two hits, one in the fourth and the other in the fifth. He allowed only one run when leadoff man Nick Logan singled to start the fifth. After a walk, he then moved to third on a stolen base and scored on a wild pitch.

The Cougars’ Jonathan Minnick knocked in two runs and Chris Remington had the other RBI. Bailey Ayers had two hits and scored a run. Hunter Shrewsbury scored the other run. He crossed the plate in the second inning putting the Cougars up 1-0 after he had reached on an error. They would go up 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Ayers lead the inning off with a hit to left field. He would later score on a Minnick ground out. Dalton pitched five innings giving up one run, two hits, walked four and struck out three. His biggest trouble was in the second as he pitched out a bases loaded, one out jam.

Pulaski Co. would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Jon Osteen walked. Remington would double him in after Osteen had stolen second base. “We took what the game gave us,” said Cougars head coach Jared King. “We hit just enough offensively to win the game. Kellen Dalton pitched a heck of a game and Brandon Neel came in and shut the door the last two innings. MInnick and Ayers had good game for us, and we played a fairly clean game.”

The Cougars moved to 1-1 on the season. They will travel to Roanoke Thursday to take on the Titans. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
