Pulaski Co. loses to Patrick Henry

Dublin…Playing for the first time in over 10 days, the Cougars looked out of sync and sluggish. They weren’t playing as a team and the Patrick Henry Patriots drubbed the Cougars 75-57 in the Cougar Den.

The Patriots hit 11 three’s as they bombed away and the Cougars seemed not to be able to do anything to stop them. Senior guard John Stock-still led Patrick Henry as he hit seven three’s and scored a team and game high 29 points. He had 21 at intermission. He outscored the Cougars by himself at halftime as they were up 43-20. He had plenty of help as Quincy Hamlet knocked in 14, Nate Woody 12 and Tee Bryan chipped in with 11.

Pulaski Co. (5-3) got 20 points from guard Logan Robertson, but he was the only Cougar in double figures. Kade Akers finished with eight and Ben Poe had seven in the loss.

“We never were in the game,” said a disappointed Cougar headman Andrew Hart. “We had too many turnovers early and they (Patriots) made us pay. Our effort, especially the first half, was there and their transition offense wore us out.” He then added, “I know we had two of our players out, but we were out worked, out of sync and didn’t play well.”

The Cougars were only down 14-9 after one quarter but were outscored 29-11 in the second. That quarter pretty much settled the game early and the Patriots came out after intermission and went on a 10-0 run in the first two minutes of the third quarter.

The Cougar junior varsity improved to 6-1 as they held on for a 49-42 win over the Patriots. The Cougars got 20 points from Dillon Porter, 10 from A J McCloud and seven each from Hayden Gray and Luke Russell. David Hunley chipped in with five. The Patriots got 18 from Dre Palmer.

Pulaski Co. will be back in action as they travel to Roanoke to take on Hidden Valley Friday. Junior varsity tips at 5:30 and varsity around 7: 00 pm.
