The Pulaski Co. boys basketball team got a team and game high 29 points from C C Grubb that helped lead them to a 69-62 road win over the Christiansburg Blue Demons. James Jackson and Braeden Blevins both had nine points each and Kade Akers chipped in eight.
The Blue demons was led by Austin Brown with 26 points and Trevor Howell contributed 15. The Demons jumped out to 8-0 as the Cougars had to call time out within the first minute and a half. Afyer that time out though, the Cougars (5-1) went a on a run of their own 9-0 to take the lead but a buzzer beating basket by Cam Nagle put the Demons up 10-9 after the first quarter.
Pulaski Co got a buzzer beater to end the first half as Braeden Blevins stick back put them up 30-27 going into intermission. Playing arguably thier best offensive basketball in the third quarter stretched their lead to 11 heading into the final quarter 49-38. Grubb would then score 12 fourth quarter points to help preserve the road win. ” I thought we focused better the second half and we attack their defense better.” Said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. ” Our spacing was better and our match ups we took advantage of in the second half.”
The game saw 38 fouls and 53 foul shots between the two teams.
Pulaski Co. junior varsity lost their first game as they went down by the score of 48-37. Dillon Porter scored 16and AJ McCloud contributed seven , Hayden Gray five in a losing effort.
The Cougars will once again be on the road as they travel across Memorial Bridge to take on the Radford Bobcats Friday. Junior varsity tips at 5:30 and the varsity around 7:00.
