Radford gets hard earned win

The Radford Bobcats hosted Glenvar and came away with a hard earned 3-2 victory. The game was moved form Friday to Saturday cause of the wet Radford Field. Bobcat starting pitcher Reese Williamson scattered eight eights in six innings as he improved to 3-0 and Taylor Newcome pitched the seventh inning to earn the save. Willamson walked four and struck out five and he was one for three at the plate. Ty Hamblin went three for three and Conner Phillips knocked in two runs on a double.

Glenvar scored first as they picked up two runs in their top of the fifth. Trip Adams lead off the inning with a walk. After a fly out Hunter Phlegar singled to left. Then after another fly out Logan Lucas would double off the left field fence to drive two.

Radford then would battle back in their half of the fifth with Trace Shepherd and Eric Burdette both reaching on base hits.Then with one out Taylor Newcome drew a walk to load the bases. Then after a strike out Conner Phillips stroked a single left center that scored Shepherd and Burdette to tie the game. The shortstop would relay the throw to third with Newcome sliding in and the throw got away as Newcome would score the go ahead run.

Radford ( 8-5-1) head coach Greg Ridpath said,” Reese ( Williamson) batted on the mound and our whole team batted today. I’m very proud of how we responded by going down two runs.” He then added,” The Meadows ( Austin) kid for Glenvar pitched a great game against us.This was two good teams battled and playing baseball today. I got after the guys after the loss to Giles Thursday and they responded . ” Radford assistant coach Bill Landes remarked,” This is the first time we have ever beaten Glenvar twice in the same season. It’s sweet.”
