Radford gets big win over Craig Co.

New Castle…The Radford Bobcats jumped on the Craig Co. Rockets in the very first inning scoring seven times enroute to a 14-3 thumping- five inning- slaughter rule win.

Ty Hamblin led the Bobcats as he scorched a home run over the right centerfield fence, knocked in two and scored twice. Matt Rehab scored twice also and had two RBIs. Roman Bonet scored twice and knocked in three to help Chance Morris on the mound. Morris went three innings as he struck out four and walked one.

Craig Co. scored all their runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jessie Brizendine, Christian Fisher and Dalton McPherson all scored a run. Fisher had one RBI and the other two Craig Co. runs were unearned. Brizendine took the loss as he pitched three innings giving up 10 hits and 11 runs of which nine were earned runs. He walked three and struck out three.

“I’m glad we jumped on them early but we lost some focus,” said Bobcat coach Greg Ridpath. “I thought our three pitchers threw strikes but offensively we struck out too many times. We need to get more consistent with the bats and we will.”

Radford scored in all five innings as they improved to 3-2 on the season. Eleven different Bobcat players had at least one hit and eight had one RBI. Nine Radford players scored one run or more in the five-inning game.

Radford will play today at home versus James River of Buchanan. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
