The Galax Maroon Tide last Friday night defeated the Bland Co. Bears 62-13 in the opening round of the Group 1C playoffs. The one thing about that game was running back Dougie Peoples got hurt in the very first few minutes. Hearing his season is over with perhaps a broken ankle or foot. Galax will be home again this Friday night as they take on the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues , who upset George Wythe in Wytheville this past Friday 14-9.

Other games this week will see EC Glass coming to Blacksburg to play the Bruins in Group 4 D. Salem will travel to Danville to take on George Washington in the other 4D game.

Group 2D action this coming Friday will pit Grayson Co. going to Bluefield to take on Graham, while Marion goes to Big Stone Gap to take on the undefeated Union Bears. Group 2C will see Floyd Co. traveling to Glenvar. Glenvar defeated the Buffaloes 35-7 back on Oct. 13. The other Group 2C will pit the Giles Spartans going to Appomattox.

Group 1 C will have the Narrows Green Wave hosting the Covington Cougars. This is a rematch of the regular season in which the Green Wave beat the Cougars 40-16. 1D will see Hurley Rebels going to Chilhowie and J I Burton going to Glade Spring to face Patrick Henry Rebels. All of these games as of this writing are scheduled for Friday at 7:00 pm.
